BHS gets busted in doubleheader wrestling event

SEATTLE – The Spartans returned from a recent trip to Seattle short two wins after the Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team suffered losses to both Nathan Hale and O’Dea at a doubleheader match Thursday, Jan. 19.

First, against NH, the BHS team was beaten 41-18. Then, in the second match of the night, they lost to O’Dea in an epic 80-6 trouncing.

Against the Raiders, the Spartans saw three forfeit wins. Nathan Hale claimed four, and four weight classes were negated by double forfeits.

Bainbridge’s Rachel Longridge got pinned in 1:36 by Kayla Springboard in the 113-pound division.

Clayton Marsh scored a Spartan win in the 132-pound match, though, pinning Colan Simpson in 2:40.

Finally, BHS’ Nate Michaels was bested in a 16-1 technical fall against Jason Moore in the 152-pound match.

Against O’Dea’s Fighting Irish, the Spartans had no forfeit wins and only claimed a victory in one match.

Michaels rallied and came back big in his second showing of the night in the 152-pound bout. He pinned Riley Halvorsen in 5:40, scoring the sole Spartan win.

O’Dea claimed eight forfeit wins and pinned the struggling Spartans in four other matches to snag success: Longridge was laid low by Austin Alvarado in the 113-pound match in just 33 seconds; Marsh, too, was brought down, by Jack Pauly in 3:24 in the 132-pound face off; Mac Schelbert was pinned in 30 seconds by O’Dea’s Miles Kramer, locking up a BHS loss in the 182-pound bracket; and finally, Spartan heavyweight Beto Allen was pinned in 2:58 in the 220-pound match by Dustyn Camacho.
