SEATTLE – Roosevelt delivered a rough welcome to the Bainbridge Spartans in the second round of the Metro League Tournament, with the Rough Riders outlasting BHS 5-3 in girls fastpitch softball.

Bainbridge had a bye in the first round, and scored first against Roosevelt in Monday’s matchup in the tourney at the Southeast Athletic Complex.

Roosevelt answered with two runs in the second, and three more in the sixth, to put the game out of reach.

Malia Peato went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for BHS, while Megan Spray went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In the following round, the Spartans fell to rival 3-2.

The Spartans have already qualified for the district tournament, and played for seeding against Prep and  Garfield (and for seventh or eighth place in the Metro tourney).

This week’s losses came after Bainbridge found itself on a roll last week.

Bainbridge finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak. The Spartans squeaked by Holy Names twice last week; forging a 7-6 win at home Wednesday and then an 11-10 victory the next day in Seattle.
