BHS bests Roosevelt 9-2 in varsity tennis

SEATTLE - The Spartans came back in a big way from their disheartening defeat against Garfield recently when the varsity coed tennis team claimed a 9-2 victory over Roosevelt High late last week.

SEATTLE – The Spartans came back in a big way from their disheartening defeat against Garfield recently when the varsity coed tennis team claimed a 9-2 victory over Roosevelt High late last week.

Bainbridge claimed wins in all but two matches.

In Boys Singles, Ben Devries was awarded the victory in the No. 1 match by default. Holt Ogden locked up the No. 2 match, winning 6-3, 6-1. Kevin Nikomborirak likewise secured the Spartan win in the No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-0.

All three Girls Singles events were also won by the BHS squad.

Sammi Jiang won the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-0. Ellie Van Slyke beat her opponent 6-3, 6-2 to win the No. 2 match and Tara Nikomborirak won No. 3 by default.

The first Roosevelt win of the day came in the Boys Doubles No. 1 match.

Alex Chan and Jeromy Lipshutz went the distance (3-6, 6-0, 5-7) but came up short.

However, Max Brown and Aiden Sullivan assured a Spartan win in the No. 2 match by default.

The second and final Roosevelt win came in the Girls Doubles No. 1 match, which saw Andalucia “Cranny” Curtis and Elizabeth Viele bested 6-2, 6-1.

In the Girls Doubles No. 2 match, though, Lilly Fagerlund and Maddy Brito brought home a win (6-2, 6-1).

The Mixed Doubles match was also a Spartan success story.

Tommy Zech and Quinn Dassel pulled out a 10-5 win in the third round to break a 6-3, 3-6 tie.
