A 2-1 loss to Ballard Tuesday, May 7 at Steve Cox Memorial Park put the Bainbridge High School varsity baseball team out of the 3A Metro Championship Tournament.
It was the island’s squad second loss of the contest, a loser-out affair, following two consecutive wins.
A stellar year under the tutelage of a new head coach saw the Spartans wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 10-5 (16-7 in conference), ranked fifth in the league standings.
Then, a disappointing loss marred their playoff debut, a 3-0 shutout against Bishop Blanchet Tuesday, April 30 at Eastside Catholic High School.
The Spartans rallied, though, scoring wins against Chief Sealth (4-0) on Friday, May 3 and Seattle Prep (11-1) the very next day before ultimately falling to Ballard.
The Beavers went on to play Eastside Catholic Wednesday, May 8, with the winner set to take fourth overall and the loser moving to the crossover loser-out game.
