The Spartan volleyball team won first place in the Gold Division at the Mariner Classic Varsity Volleyball Tournament this weekend at Mariner High School in Everett.

Kitsap County high school volleyball teams did well at the Sept. 7 tournament. Both Bainbridge and Central Kitsap won their playoffs brackets.

Bainbridge will get their own shot at the Cougars later this week. The Spartans will start the season at home on Friday, Sept. 13 against Central Kitsap.

Varsity play begins at 6:15, and junior varsity action gets underway at 5 p.m.

Gold Division

First place: Bainbridge High School

Second place: Mountlake Terrace High School

Third place (tie): Arlington High School and Cedarcrest High School (Duvall)

Fifth place (tie): Monroe High School, Shorecrest High School, White River High School, Meadowdale High School

Silver Division

First place: Central Kitsap High School

Second place: Mariner High School

Third place (tie): Vashon High School and Friday Harbor High School

Fifth place (tie): Nathan Hale High School, Sedro Woolley High School, Granite Falls High School, Yelm High School.
