Bainbridge Island Rowing to screen ‘Boys of ’36’ film

Bainbridge Island Rowing will celebrate the legacy of Northwest rowing with a special advance screening of the PBS documentary “American Experience: The Boys of ’36,” based on Dan Brown’s bestselling book “The Boys in the Boat.”

BAINBRIDGE  – Bainbridge Island Rowing will celebrate the legacy of Northwest rowing with a special advance screening of the PBS documentary “American Experience: The Boys of ’36,” based on Dan Brown’s bestselling book “The Boys in the Boat.”

The free public event will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Bainbridge Cinemas at the Pavilion.

The movie recalls the incredible true story of the group of working-class boys from the University of Washington who went on to surprise a nation when they captured the gold medal in rowing at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin.

The broadcast premiere of “American Experience: The Boys of ’36” will be on KCTS at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2.
