The Spartan boys water polo team lost at home 11-9 to longtime rivals from Newport High School late last week.

Though the Spartans lead for the first few goals, Newport quickly pulled ahead and left the boys to play catchup. Though they did manage a comeback in the middle of the game, it was the last two Newport goals, scored in the final moments of the game, that proved too much for the Spartans to recover from.

“We’ve been working on our power plays and passing,” said Spartan Head Coach Jacob Millican.

He went on to cite patience and accuracy as areas in need of improvement.

“That’s the disadvantage of a young team,” he said.

The Spartans play their next game at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center against Gig Harbor on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 4:45 p.m.
