Bainbridge drubs North Kitsap in season’s first basketball game

Though their first scheduled game was postponed over the weekend, the Bainbridge boys varsity basketball team came out and earned a decisive victory in their game against North Kitsap High Monday.

POULSBO – Though their first scheduled game was postponed over the weekend, the Bainbridge boys varsity basketball team came out and earned a decisive victory in their game against North Kitsap High Monday.

The final score was 77-58 BHS.

The Spartans actually trailed in the first quarter (16-15) before coming back hard in the second (20-12).

They would maintain the court domination throughout the second half.

Bainbridge had only nine turnovers and were better on the glass than Windex. The Spartans out-rebounded the Vikings 40-20, said Spartan Head Coach Scott Orness.

“Oskar [Dieterich] also had 12 rebounds and took charges, Sawyer [Conrad] had 11 rebounds in two quarters of play [and Blake] Swanson had six assists, three steals and two blocks,” Orness said.

Dieterich, who only just recently signed signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for Black Hills State University in South Dakota, was the team’s leading scorer in the season’s debut game. He managed 20 points total.

Lyle Terry followed close behind with 18 points and team co-captain Swanson finished the game with 14.

The Spartans were originally slated to play against Kingston last Saturday, but bad road conditions led to the postponement, Orness said.

“The game will be made up,” he said.

The Spartans will again play on the road against Eastside Catholic at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, with their new first home game slated for 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 against Garfield High.
