Bainbridge divers win big at Provincials

Divers with the Bainbridge Island Dive Club returned home from the 2015 British Columbia Summer Provincials Diving Championships with a boatload of medals.

Divers with the Bainbridge Island Dive Club returned home from the 2015 British Columbia Summer Provincials Diving Championships with a boatload of medals.

The club ferried over to the picturesque city of Victoria, B.C. for the meet, held May 29-31 at Saanich Commonwealth Place. The international competition allowed the team’s members from Bainbridge, Kingston and Poulsbo to compete on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards with some of the best age group divers Canada has to offer.

In the girls 11/12-year-old division, Bryn Tiernan of Bainbridge Island earned a bronze medal on both the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 162.30 and 140.25.

Jackie Hellmers of Poulsbo placed fourth on the 1-meter board with a score of 235.20. She also had a second-place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 240.95 while competing in the girls 14/15-year-old division.

Cammie Rouser of Kingston and Zora Opalka of Bainbridge Island both competed in the girls 16/18-year-old division.

Opalka finished seventh on the 1-meter with a score of 322.15 and earned a gold medal on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 391.65.

Rouser finished ninth on the 1-meter with a score of 278.40 and received a silver on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 331.15.

In the boys 12/13-year-old division, Henry Sauermann of Bainbridge Island earned a silver medal on the 1-meter with a score of 176.20 and a gold medal on the 3-meter with a 203.55.

Two of the team members qualified for the 2015 USA Diving National Preliminary Zone E Championships and will be competing in Beaverton, Ore. on June 9–12.
