The Bainbridge Spartans cross country team dominated at districts Nov. 1 in Tacoma, taking both the boys and girls team titles as well as two individual titles.
Spartans Evelyn Shutske and Ryan Dodge both placed first in the 5K events. In 3A, Central Kitsap claimed the boys team title and the girls finished fifth overall to qualify for state. Other teams to qualify for state were Kingston (boys and girls) and Olympic (boys). Many other individual Kitsap runners earned state bids as well.
The cross country state championships will be held Nov. 8 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
“I’ve trained for it, so it feels like it’s all coming together now,” Dodge said. “And I mean, this one’s not as important as next week, so kind of just wanted to get the win and move on.”
