SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team earned a big win at their first trip to the mat this year, scoring a 58-18 victory over Chief Sealth on the road Thursday, Dec. 4.

The Spartans easily claimed the day and won every match in every class that featured a Bainbridge wrestler.

There was a double forfeit in the 106-pound weight class.

Then, in the 113-pound match, Koa Goff pinned his opponent in only 1:29.

Cad Topham claimed a win in the 120-pound class by forfeit.

Jonathan Gallivan pinned Sealth’s Tommy Bui in just 22 seconds in the 126-pound class. Fellow Spartan Greg Williams pinned his own opponent in 2:30 for a win in the 132-pound match.

Fernando Soria won the 138-pound match by forfeit.

Hague Bush pinned Sealth’s Joe Sanderson in 1:25 for a win in the 145-pound match. Bainbridge’s Jack Miller made short work of Jose Magana for a 152-pound win in only 31 seconds.

In the 160-pound match, Aaron Jumpa easily won in a 13-5 decision over Sealth’s Oliver Jackson.

Spartan heavyweights Joaquin Gurza and Liam Topham each earned wins in the 170- and 182-pound matches, respectively. Gurza pinned Sealth’s Andy Hoang in 1:30, Topham claimed a victory by forfeit.

Sealth won the final three matches in forfeit victories, but it wasn’t enough to assuage the Spartan smackdown that the Bainbridge squad had already laid on them.

The team’s next outing – a tournament at Kingston High slated for Saturday – was canceled, making the Spartans’ next meet 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at O’Dea High where they will face off against wrestlers from Cleveland, Franklin and O’Dea.
