A finale fleet of foot, All-Comers comes to an exciting end

An awards ceremony highlighted the last Kiwanis All-Comers Track meet on Monday, celebrating the speediest, winningest racers of the summer.

Kiwanis championship trophies for most points scored this season went to 8-year-old Darya Dennon, who earned 60 points by winning 20 consecutive races, and to 9-year-old Howard Howlett, who lost a few races, sometimes competing against 10-year-olds, but still accumulated 75 points, the equivalent of five first place finishes each week.

Second place trophies went to Darya’s sister Karina Dennon (age 10), and 7-year-old Austin Fixter.

Earning thirds were two 6-year-olds: Brooke Anderson and Liam Boyce.

Honorable mentions included Evie Beals (3), Etta Henry (4), Alex Douthart (9) and Rollins Anderson (10) among the girls, and for the boys Noah Fixter (4), Owen Haizlip (5), Charlie King (6), Cole Haizlip (8) and Chase Knapp (9).

The “Jogger’s Mile” trophy was won by Caleb Nelson (11) for winning three weeks in a row, predicting his mile time within a second each time.

Most applause went to 79-year-old Gary Wright, who won the “Inspirational” trophy for his persistent racing each week.

After the ceremony, speedy Darya Dennon continued her unbeaten string by winning four more races, said event organizer Paul Benton. Christopher Bourgeois (5) also won four races, while three each were won by Fiona Livingston (5), Catrina Godfrey (7), Kaitlyn Davis (9), Anders Robba Goldberg (6) and Henry Rose (9).

Twelve-year-old Aubrie Scott won the jogger’s mile by finishing a half a second over her predicted 8:10, while high school cross country runner Steven Albergine was second, finishing in 5:43.8 while predicting 5:45.
