9 Kitsap teams qualify entire squads for state

Kitsap County cross country teams competed in Westside District Championships last weekend, and nine of 14 teams qualified entire squads for state, but the other five also will send at least one runner to Pasco Nov. 4.

In 3A, the top seven teams and 49 runners qualify for state.

Bainbridge will head there after finishing third in the boys division. Ben Crandall finished eighth with a time of 16 minutes, 30.1 seconds. Laird Ferrel finished 17th in 16:52, Bodie Strom 31st in 17:09.3, and Marcus Stroman 36th in 17:15.4.

The Spartan girls finished fourth. Mairin O’Brien was 11th with a time of 19:11.9, Sabine Hartenstine 20th in 20:11.9, Elise Gonzales 21st in 20:15.3, Cara Brundige finished 36th in 20:37 and Claire Hungerford finished 42nd in 20:49.5.

Central Kitsap won the 3A boys and girls divisions. The boys had six runners place in the top 49.

Blake Reynolds finished third with a time of 16:17.3, Michael Vlach seventh in 16:29.8, Gavin Brown ninth in 16:34.9, Mana Voss 11th in 16:36.1, Aidan Hermida 26th in 17:03.5, and Ethan Huff finished 28th with a time of 17:06.6.

The girls dominated with 70 points and five girls in the top 49. Camryn Bishoff, Sally Corder and Taylor Palmer finished seventh through ninth with times of 19:03.8, 19:06.5 and 19:07.6. Eva Huff finished 15th in 19:39.5 and Jacqueline Conger 34th in 20:35.7.

In 2A, the top six teams and 42 runners qualify for state.

The Kingston boys won the division. Lucas Lenz finished third in 15:58, Luke Whalen sixth in 16:22.6, Emmanuel Moes 16th in 17:07.7, Timothy Clark-Johnston 22nd in 17:19.1, Zachary Cummings 27th in 17:26.4 and Swayer Olaf 42nd in 17:56.1.

Kingston’s girls squad finished fourth. Isabell Hunt finished 21st in 21:50.2, Emmie McGrew 23rd in 21:54.1, Arlana Forbes-Prater 36th in 22:57.5, Sophia Brown 40th in 23:00.2 and Emma Grice 42nd in 23:15.1.

Olympic’s boys team will head to state after finishing fifth with 175 points. Samuel Bonsell finished ninth in 16:41.3, Joshua Turner 20th in 17:17.3, Justin Jaramillo 23rd in 17:21.4 and Caleb Davis 38th in 17:35.7.

The Trojan girls squad also finished fifth. Brynn Fulton finished ninth in 20:59.5, Cassia Whittier 30th in 22:44.8, Ashlynn Bullock 32nd in 22:48.6 and Sophia MacDonald 39th in 23 minutes flat.

North Kitsap’s boys team failed as a team to qualify by finishing 11th. However, Quinny Stuart finished 10th overall in 16:50.7 and Liam Johnson 30th in 17:29.9 so they will move on.

North Kitsap’s girls team just missed qualifying by placing seventh as a squad. But Georgia Nelson was 26th in 22:23.1, Kendall Becker 29th in 22:36.9 and Ingrid Burchill 37th in 22:59.1 to advance individually.

In 1A, the top three teams and 21 runners reach the state championships.

Klahowya’s girls finished second. Natalie Oathout was third in 19:36.6, Ella Salo sixth in 21:12.3, Samantha Schofield ninth in 21:43.5, Amelia Mayes 11th in 21:57.7, Jordan Clark 13th in 22:37.2 and Hannah Bench 19th in 24:26.3.

Klahowya’s boys team finished fourth. However, Carson Wintch was ninth in 17:23.8, Malachi Mardo 15th in 17:51.3 Tyler Larson 17th in 17:53.6 and Sawyer Hermosura-Roark 21st in 18:07.3.

In the 4A division, the top seven teams and 49 runners qualify for state.

South Kitsap’s girls finished 10th, but the Wolves will send three girls to state. Lauren Laws finished 11th in 19:25.2, Emma Schmutz 12th in 19:29.7, and Joan Hampton 37th in 20:18.8.

SK’s boys team finished 12th out of 17. Isaac Benjamin is the lone runner who qualified, placing 14th in 16:40.1.

All Kitsap County XC teams will head to Pasco Nov. 4 for the state championships.
