BATTLE POINT – Coach Tim Self’s 14U Boys team held on to their trophy for another year at the Island Cup at Battle Point this weekend to wrap up another successful summer run of tournament play for the team.

Striker Evan Starke’s hat trick in the final led The Blues to a hard fought and entertaining 3-1 victory over Seattle United South Black on Sunday afternoon.

The game was a rematch of their Saturday quarterfinal also won by The Blues with a dramatic late goal for the win.

Evan, a member of the Washington State Elite Development Program, was the hardworking beneficiary of some solid teamwork alongside him all weekend.

Notable contributions were made by newcomer Dustin Scott, Carlo Ruggiero and Jack Henry Hung with timely assists, goals and consistent pressure up front. Keeper Andy Becker made some spectacular saves to preserve the margin of victory in the final with solid back line defense from Daniel DeBellis and Grant Wolff as well.

Coach Self, with more than 16 years of professional coaching background, will now lead The Blues as they embark on their first season in Division RCL 2 starting Sept. 6 at Battle Point Park’s turf fields.

RCL 2 has one of the highest standards of play in Washington State which will provide The Blues with their sternest test yet after earning past season championships in RCL 3, RCL 4 and The State Challenge Cup Championship in 2013.

The fourth annual Island Cup attracted more than 74 teams from around the Northwest to visit and compete over three days of highly entertaining soccer for this popular event.

The Boys and Girls divisions were equally split with 37 teams each with age groups ranging from U9 to U14 and Bainbridge Island Football Club represented the home side well across all divisions.
