Samuel Edward Fields

January 21, 1934 – December 17, 2010

      Samuel Edward Fields (Eddie) passed away on December 17th from complications following surgery. He was born January 21st, 1934 in Brady, WA.

      Ed graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, WA and spent his formative years in and around Grays Harbor County where he developed a love of the outdoors spending countless hours hunting, fishing and clam digging. While in high school Ed took an after-school job at a local bakery beginning a lifelong career as a baker which included owning a bakery in Montesano with his brother Jay and later managing bakeries throughout the northwest until his retirement from the Bainbridge Safeway in 2000.

      It was also in high school that Ed unknowingly met his future wife, Carole Kaiyala. After previous marriages Ed and Carole reconnected and were married in 1965 kindling a devotion to each other that lasted until their deaths. Initially the family lived in Vancouver, WA then moved to Bainbridge Island in 1968. On Bainbridge, Ed and Carole focused on raising their children Kevin, Pam and Craig and building a life centered on family activities including camping and fishing. Ed also loved coaching youth sports and was a successful football and baseball coach for several years.

      With their kids grown, Ed and Carole enjoyed traveling the Northwest in their motor home and spending time with their family until Carole’s protracted illness and death in 2004. In addition to his children Kevin, Pam and Craig, Ed is survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and by his sisters Margaret Nevilles of Montesano, WA and Leanne Ohman of Vancouver, WA. A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held Saturday, January 29th at the Island Center Hall located at 8395 Fletcher Bay Road on Bainbridge Island from 2PM to 5PM.
