Russel Leonard Gibson, 95, of Poulsbo passed away on December 1, 2016, in Des Moines, WA. He was born in Camp Grant, Illinois, to Guy R. Gibson and Mary Gladys (Trinkle) Gibson. Russ graduated from Moorhead High School in Moorhead, Minnesota, and attended North Dakota State in Fargo, ND studying engineering for two years. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1944-46 and the United States Army Reserve from 1948-51. His duty stations and time served during WWII included Honolulu, HI, Florida and California. He married Iola J. Larson on November 29, 1941 in Moorhead, Minnesota. They were married for 64 years. Russ worked for Boeing as an engineer for 44 years. He was a member of Glendale Lutheran Church (Burien), First Lutheran Church (Poulsbo), Sons of Norway, Boeing Management Association, and the American Legion. Russ enjoyed traveling to Europe, Scandinavia, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and Japan. He loved camping, fishing, clamming, hand tools, woodworking, carving, designing, building, and coin collecting. Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Iola (2005); mother, Gladys Kaplan (1999); son, Bruce E. Gibson (1994); father, Guy R. Gibson (1947); brother Donald E. Gibson (1998); and step father, Morris Kaplan (1974). He is survived by his sons, Lance M. Gibson of Burien, WA, James D. Gibson of La Conner, WA; daughter Janice E. Chamberlain of Ephrata, WA; brother Ralph W. Gibson of Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
