Rollande Dumdie

Rollande “Ronnie” Dumdie, of Bainbridge Island, died peacefully at her home in the Madison Avenue Retirement Center on Sept. 13. She was 85.

She was born in Leduc, Alberta, Canada in 1923, and her childhood was spent on a farm in Alberta. She later attended business college and became a medical stenographer.

During World War II, she met her beloved husband, Ernie Dumdie, gave up her Canadian citizenship and in 1946 moved to Le Center, Minn., where they raised their family.

Ronnie worked in the County Extension Office for many years until the couple’s retirement in 1979, when they moved to Gig Harbor.

Ronnie and Ernie were blessed with 20 wonderful retirement years together; traveling, garage-saleing and enjoying their family. Upon Ernie’s death in 1998, Ronnie moved to Bainbridge Island, where she enjoyed her new home, the people and activities at the Bainbridge Island Senior Center, and the pace of island life.

Ronnie will be remembered for her generosity, her enjoyment of simple pleasures and a love for her family.

Ronnie was predeceased by her true love, Ernie; her brother, Mark Dubord; her sister, Cecile Lotzer; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Taus; and numerous dear friends.

She is survived by her her son, Kenneth Dumdie and family of Cambridge, Minn.; son Curtis Dumdie and family of Good Thunder, Minn.; and daughter Laurie Spickard and family, of Bainbridge Island. Ronnie cherished her grandchildren, Corie Barry, Rochelle Taus, Lucas Dumdie, and Emma Spickard, along with her great-grandson, Parker Barry.

A memorial service will be planned in the future. For notification about the service, please email the family at salmonmoon@q.com. The family asks that memorials be sent to the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center, 370 Brien Dr., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
