Rachel “Helene” Peterson died Jan. 4 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, with her family at her side. She was 71.

She was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Flint, Mich., to Carl and Frances Alderson.

She married Kenneth Peterson on Nov. 24, 1956. She moved to Bainbridge Island in 1950 and was a resident since that time.

She was a member of St.Cecilia Catholic Church and was active in the community.

She enjoyed cooking, taking trips to Reno, Nev., with her husband, and being with her grandchildren and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 2001.She is survived by her children Kevin Peterson of Seattle, Kelly (Araceli) Peterson of Granite Falls and Regan (Shawn) Antig of Kingston; and by four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at Kass & Cook Family Funeral Home. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at Port Blakely Cemetery, with a reception from noon to 2 p.m. that afternoon at the Masonic Lodge.
