Patricia A. Smith

Patricia Ann Smith

April 5, 1940 – January 5, 2012

Patricia Ann Smith, age 71, of Kearns, Utah passed away peacefully at her residence Thursday January 5, 2012 after a long battle of multiple illnesses.

She was born in Logan, Kansas on April 5, 1940 to Orlaff and Sarah Morton, married Richard Smith in 1962 and soon moved to Bainbridge Island where they raised their family and spent most of their lives.

Patricia was known for a lot of things but probably best known for her tireless dedication working for the Bainbridge Island School district as a School Bus Driver for nearly 30 years. She loved her job and towards the end of her career she found even greater pleasure in shuttling disabled children to and from school. Patricia was a red head and had a heart of gold and a spirit like no other. Her job required a lot of physical work. She was very petite and finally after a falling accident she was forced into retirement. After that it was her wish to relocate to Coalville, Utah back in 2000. She was then able to be close to and spend time with her eldest son Garrett and her grandchildren. The family later moved to her final residence in Kearns, Utah

Pat was extremely creative and had a strong talent for all types of crafts and hobbies including, seamstress, cooking and decoration. She was active in the cub scouts, Horseback riding, dancing and a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. She will always be remembered by family as well as many friends and acquaintances’ for her cooking. Be it for the family on holidays and special occasions, or simply to make other’s feel welcome she would prepare a feast beyond the imagine. Up to and including the day of her passing she was busy making blankets for special people in her life. Patricia was kind hearted and always had an open door for her children’s friends. Making sure that they had full bellies after a day at the “Smith’s” by the time they left.

A dedicated and loving mother she always had time for her sons sports and other childhood activities. She truly enjoyed driving bus loads of kids to and from school and out of town activities. Not a day went by that she didn’t mention “her kids” (that’s how she referred to the ones that rode on her bus), and all the memories that she made with them.

Patricia is survived by her three sons and their families; Garrett Smith of Kearns Utah, Lance Smith & Linnea K. McCrary (Smith), currently residing in Glendale AZ, and Kyle & Wendy Smith, also in Glendale, AZ. Five grandchildren… Marvin & Elizabeth Downard, Julie Audell, Beau & JaNae Smith.       As per Patricia’s request, the family is honoring her wishes. Never wanting to be fussed over there will be no services and desires to be placed next to her husband Richard in their final resting spot where she and her family made their lives on Bainbridge Island, WA.

Gravesite placement will be announced at a later time.
