Merry Cathleen (Cathy) Nestle was born in Sioux City Iowa, the only daughter of Roland Lee Ebersole and Dorothy Jane Everts. She left us peacefully on January 6th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief decline.
Cathy spent her early years in northern California, where she graduated from Arcata High School. Growing up she was always outside and loved her adventures running around with her big brother Gary and the family dog Bonnie.
Fiercely independent and smart she spent her young adult years working odd jobs, including as a telephone operator, pursuing higher learning, and having wild and fun capers with her friends. Throughout her life, Cathy’s journey took her from California to Colorado, North Dakota, Germany, Ohio, and back to California. In 1984, Cathy and her family settled in the Pacific Northwest, a place she would grow to love deeply, and where she would remain for the rest of her life.
Her greatest joy was her family. Cathy was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. Her home was her sanctuary, where she created a haven filled with love, laughter, and simple moments that will be forever treasured. Cathy had a biting wit and was full of fun. She had a flair for the dramatic and loved celebrating and making an event out of things. She was a big foodie, and had many hobbies and talents, including cooking, reading, shopping, and jewelry—and if you are wondering, yes that can be a hobby. A huge animal lover, she always had a pampered pet or two around the home, and a few from the neighborhood she was taking care of as well.
Cathy valued education, going back to school and proudly earning her degree as a registered nurse. A dedicated learner, she pursued studies throughout her life. She devoted herself to her patients with compassion and love, whether caring for babies in labor and delivery or comforting those in hospice. Cathy’s care extended far beyond professional duty; she treated each person like family, pouring her heart into every interaction.
Cathy is survived by her beloved big brother Gary (Jahnna) Ebersole of Medford Oregon, daughter Marie (Byron) Baird of Payson Utah, her cherished granddaughter Liesel (Jacob) Hansen of Mesa Arizona, and countless friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest brother, Ronald Ebersole, and her dear son-in-law, Eric Bramwell.
