Mary Suzanne Marimon

March 23, 1932 – April 16, 2011

Mary Suzanne Marimon (Sue) was born in Long Beach Calif., on March 23, 1932.

This was during the depression and Sue’s father, Melville (Mel) Godwin, moved to where he could find work in the construction business, as he was a mason. Sue’s mother Norma was a gifted pianist and taught piano wherever they were to help with the finances. The Godwin’s were finally able to settle down in South Pasadena California, where Sue went to high school. After high school she spent one year at Pasadena City College, then transferred to Occidental College in Los Angeles where she met her husband, Robert (Bob) Marimon. Bob and Sue were married June 7th, 1953 and lived in Pasadena and Arcadia California where Bob worked for the United States Navy and Sue worked for the school district.

In 1973 Bob took a new position at the Naval Torpedo Station Keyport, Wash. Bob and Sue settled on Bainbridge Island and Sue took a job in Financial Operations for the Lockheed Missiles and Space Division at Bangor. Sue retired from Lockheed in 1988 and worked for several years as office manager at the Madison Avenue Retirement Center when it first opened, then was on the staff at the Bargain Boutique/Children’s Hospital Thrift Shop on Bainbridge Island and became a member of the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club. She retired again but continued to volunteer for Rotary, the Bargain Boutique and the Bainbridge Island Senior Center.

Sue loved to travel, particularly in Mexico, where she and Bob made several trips. They bought a motor home and traveled all over the US South West and Baja Mexico during the winter months.

Sue is survived by her husband Bob, son Mark Marimon of St Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, and daughter Melissa Olejniczak of Snohomish, Wash. She is also survived by grandchildren Crystal and Ryan Cross, Andrew Cabamalan and Aaron Olejniczak.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, 11042 Sunrise Dr. NE, Bainbridge Island, on Saturday June 4th at 1:30 PM.
