Marion Bridston Lofgren, of Bainbridge Island, died peacefully on Nov. 27 at Messenger House Care Center. She was 94.
She was born in Grand Forks, N.D. on May 8, 1914. As a young girl, she and her father and grandparents moved from Wolf Point, Mont., to the Pasadena, Calif., area, where she lived until 1949.
She then moved to Bainbridge Island, where she met and married Capt. Edward K. Lofgren. They were later divorced.
In the late 1950s, she attended Olympic College and received her LPN nursing degree. She then worked at Bainbridge Sanitarium, Martha and Mary nursing home and Ebenezer Rest Home, where she became the supervisor.
She retired and worked part-time at Messenger House as a nurse, and then moved to the medical records department, where she continued to work until she was 82.
She had many creative outlets that included singing in the Bainbridge Chorale, playing the piano and writing poetry. She won two awards for her poetry and published one book of poems.
When she was in her 80s, she wrote her life story on the computer and added scanned family pictures; she had it printed and bound at age 91. She was a member of the Franciscan Order The Little Sisters of St. Clare.
She was well known for her kind and loving spirit.
She is survived by her son, Edward Jon (Catherine) Lofgren; daughter Linda Lofgren Hibert; grandchildren Fraser Soderstrom and Darby Hebert; and many other family members and friends.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at Island Center Cemetery.
