Leona Stow

Leona Matson Stow, age 96

      Leona Matson Stow died on July 30 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center on Bainbridge Island, WA, a week and a half after her 96th birthday.

      Leona was born on July 16, 1916 to Archie Raymond Matson and Edith Hannagan. She was married to Marston Richard Keating in 1934 and had one son M. Richard Keating. That marriage ended in divorce in 1946. She met Tom Stow, the legendary tennis coach, and married in 1949. They worked as a team to develop the tennis programs at The Berkeley Tennis Club (Berkeley, CA.), Meadowood (St. Helena, CA) and the Silverado Country Club (Napa, CA). Leona was well known for her love of life and sense of humor.

      Leona was pre-deceased by her twin brother, Archie Matson (San Leandro, CA), husband Tom Stow (Rossmor, CA), grand daughter Anne Keating (Honolulu, HI). She is survived by her son Dick Keating (Janet), grand daughter Lynn Keating Smith (Darren), Great grand daughter Meghan Smith and great grandson Austin Smith, all of Bainbridge Island, WA.

      The family would like to thank Island Health and Rehabilitation for the care and comfort that they gave Leona over the two years that she was there.

      A family spreading of her ashes took place on August 18. Any remembrances can be sent to the University of California Berkeley Tennis program.
