Larry Gene Wilkins

Former islander Larry Gene Wilkins, age 66, died Nov. 23 at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, Calif.

He was born July 10, 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio to Helen Anna Tucker and John Wesley Wilkins.

He grew up in Ohio and attended high school in Cleveland.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955, where he served as a cartographer until 1976. He later worked for the Seattle Post Office.

In 1962, he married Hergart Wilkins. The couple was married 21 years.

The family moved to Bainbridge in 1976. He lived on the island until 1983, when he moved to Seattle.

He is survived by his former spouse, Hergart Wilkins of Poulsbo; three children, Richard Wilkins of Virginia, Eileen May of Buckley, Wash., and Sandra Wilkins of Poulsbo; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.
