John Stuart Fox, 83

John Stuart Fox died Oct. 21. He was 83.

John was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Seattle to Irvin and Laura Fox. He moved with his family from Lake Washington to Bainbridge Island in 1937 and graduated from Bainbridge High School.

On Sept. 15, 1951, he married Muriel Ekstedt of Keyport at the Keyport Bible Church. They took their honeymoon in Victoria B.C. traveling aboard the Blackball Ferry “MV Chinook.” They lived at Central Valley until moving to Bainbridge Island, where he resided until his death.

John started working for Blackball ferries at the age of 13 on the Bainbridge-Seattle route, working on the Elwha, Klahanie, Kahloken and the Quinault. After serving in World War II in Okinawa, he returned to Bainbridge and worked for Foss Tugs. He also worked at Bangor Submarine Base, the Keyport Torpedo Station, and the Seattle Steam Plant. From 1992 until his death, he ran his own business, Fox and Associates, selling boiler treatment.

Survivors include his sons, John and Michael, both of Bainbridge Island, and Duane of Seattle; daughters Randina Chaffin and Michelle Coyle, both of Poulsbo; grandchildren Amy Carpenter, and Christopher and Andrea Coyle; and two great-grandchildren children, Moses and Lanie.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Keyport Bible Church, and viewing is between 12:30-1:15 p.m. Interment will be at Island Lake Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Keyport Bible Church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses. Deposits may be made at any American Marine Bank branch. Please make checks payable to Michael Fox noting on the memo line “John Fox Memorial Fund.”
