Janet Marie Perilman

December 12, 1952 – February 20, 2013

      Janet Marie Perilman died on February 20th after a long battle with ALS.

      Janet was born in Grand Rapids, MI on December 12, 1952 to Fran and Richard Mitchell. She grew up in Lansing and graduated from Michigan State.

      After graduation, Janet worked as a social worker, system analyst at Rolm, Universal Studios and IBM. Once Jacob was born in 1989, Janet became a full-time Mom. When Jacob was in High school, Janet went back to school to get her Master’s in Education and realized her dream of being an elementary school teacher. She loved the children and they loved her back. Before she retired due to the illness, she worked at the IRS in customer service. She loved tax law but most of all she loved helping people whether it was as a social worker, 911 operator, librarian assistant, or substitute teacher.

      Janet was an avid reader. She was never without a book nearby. She also had a passion for animals. Janet would not let a dog go by without asking the owner if she could pet it.

      Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Francis Mitchell and father, Richard Mitchell. She is survived by son, Jacob and husband Ken.

      Janet will always be remembered for her sense of humor, warm heart, courage and passion for life.

      Janet requested that she not have a memorial service.
