Janet Lorraine Hoffman

Longtime island resident Janet Lorraine Hoffman, age 75, died at Island Health and Rehabilitation on Oct. 23.

She was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Seattle, daughter of Louis and Stella (Kuntz) Griffin.

Shortly after she graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle, she married William C. Hoffman. They lived in Seattle until they came to Bainbridge Island in 1971 as the co-owners of Village Foods.

They operated the store until 1985. While at Village Foods, Janet was the bookkeeper.

She also served on the election boards for Snohomish and Kitsap counties for 35 years.

After retirement, she spend several years working at the Bargain Boutique. She enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by her mother, Stella of Seattle; three daughters — Sue Pomar of Bainbridge Island, Carol Harvey of Bothell and Betsy Simpson of Burien; and three grandchildren — Jennifer, Meagan and Kelli.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Madison Avenue Retirement Center.
