Jane Margaret Griffiths Jacques

      Jane Margaret Griffiths Jacques, age 88, died February 9, 2011, in Silverdale, WA.

      She was born May 7, 1922 at 101 Sutton Manor Road, New Rochelle, NY, to the late Charles Hayden Griffiths and the late Marion Breen Griffiths. Her husband, the late Robert B. Jacques passed on in 1955.

      She was a great swimmer and accomplished spring board diver as a girl and also loved to sing while playing the piano.

      She attended Fairfax Hall in Fairfax, VA then attended and graduated from Ohio State University. She married Robert B. Jacques in Columbus, OH on June 12, 1943. She and Bob had three sons. After the death of her husband she obtained her teaching degree at Columbia University in New York.

      The next 15 years were spent providing for and raising three sons while teaching school in Columbus. After the death of her father she pursued her love of art, by attending classes at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. She was constantly trying new things such as oil, water color, pencil, and block prints. She has left a wonderful collection of her work to her family.

      While in Hawaii she became a student of Buddhism and had a wonderful association with the Buddhist Study Center, including a 1981 trip to Japan to see the places where Shinran Shonin actually lived, which brought great understanding and meaning into her life. She took great pride in her cultural Welch heritage, especially the music.

      She is survived by three sons; Jon (Arsenia) of Honolulu, David (Karen) of Wayland, Massachusetts, Mark (Nancy) of Bainbridge Island, WA (formerly of Medfield, MA); six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

      A memorial service is planned to distribute her ashes off the top of Haleakala Crater in Maui.
