Gordon Emil Schramm

June 8, 1925 – August 28, 2011

      Surrounded by his loving family, Gordon, 86 died at home on August 28, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was raised in Spokane and graduated from West Valley High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he trained to be a pilot. After WWII, he joined the reserves and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

      Gordon graduated from the University of Washington in 1949. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity where he made many life-long friends. After graduation, Gordon worked at GMAC where he met his future wife, Elna Englen.

      In 1957, he co-founded Continental Food Sales. He enjoyed a 50-year career as a frozen food broker.

      Gordon and Elna lived in Bellevue for many years before moving to Bainbridge Island in 1982. They have lived in Point Edwards in Edmonds for the last two years. The happiest times of his life were spent with his family at Tulalip Shores and Maui. An avid Husky fan, he rarely missed a home game in over 50 years. Gordon had many interests including: traveling, boating, playing golf and skiing.

      Gordon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elna; his three daughters: Carol Whipple, Katie (John) Fletcher and Barb (Brent) Leedle; and his beloved grandchildren: Jamie and Katie Whipple, Charlie Fletcher, and Jason Leedle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian; brothers, Warren and Roger Schramm.

      The family wishes to thank Dr. Sam Whiting and his team at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and the Evergreen Hospice for their loving care.
