Elsie Louise Hansen

Bainbridge Island resident Elsie Louise Hansen, age 88, died Feb. 14 at Messenger House Care Center. 

She was born July 22, 1916 in Spokane, to Albert and Grace (Sidney) Skoglund.  She grew up in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1934. She received a diploma in cosmetology in 1935.

During World War II, the family moved to Seattle where she worked in a gas station. 

She married Cecil A. Hansen on Jan. 18, 1946. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell and retired in 1981.

She enjoyed knitting, reading and traveling to England to visit her daughter.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil, two sisters, Elloner Hesse and Marquerite Dees and one brother, Sydney Skoglund.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Jean Clegg and her husband Ron of Cornwall, England, and one son, Roger Hansen and his wife Sammie, Bainbridge Island; three grandchildren, Chelsea Hansen, Josh Hutchinson and Jeremy Bjornson and one great grandchild, Samara Hutchinson.

At her request there will be no services. Her cremated remains will be scattered along Bull River in Montana, where she spent many summers growing up.
