Douglas Scott Sherrill

      Douglas Scott Sherrill of Poulsbo died at home in his sleep of heart failure July 6, at the age of 74.

      He was born in Shanghai, China, on June 20, 1937, to LaVerne Hawkinson and Wallace Sherrill.

      He attended Stanford University, receiving a degree in education. He met his future wife, Penny, in California, and they married in 1970. He worked in event management for the Holiday Inn Hotels and the Association of California School Administrators.

      After moving to Poulsbo in 1984, he worked in special education for the Bainbridge Island School District.

      He is survived by son John (Donna) of Lincoln, Calif. and David (Anna) of Yoder, Colo; granddaughters Tiffany and Cora, great grandaughters Whitney and Genaveve; brother Randy Hawkinson of Salinas, Calif.

      He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999.

      A memorial celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday July 16 with a pot luck dinner to follow at Kingston Unity Church, 26011 Ohio Ave. NE in Kingston.
