Bette Wood Nute

Bette Wood Nute passed away serenely in her four-generation family home at Bean’s Bight on July 21. Born to Nora Frost and Arthur S. Wood in Three Forks, MT September 15, 1918

She moved to Seattle where she graduated from West Seattle High in 1936. Bette married John Trull Nute on April 11, 1942 and later moved to his family home on the island with their two sons, John Packard and Robert Wood Nute.

She enjoyed social memberships in the Seattle Arboretum, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Orthopedic Hospital, Bainbridge Island Garden Club, and Country Club of Seattle; and she was a pioneer ski racer in the Penguin and Huntoon Ski Clubs. Her fondest employment was managing the front office of The Bainbridge Review under Walt and Millie Woodward. Here she loved assisting new employees with their duties and island newcomers with housing and employment.

Bette is survived and celebrated by her sons and two grandchildren, Sawyer Gibb and Madison Trull Nute, and numerous extended family, neighbors, and loving friends.
