Anita Elizabeth Wicklund

September 25, 1915 – July 29, 2013

      Anita Elizabeth Wicklund was born in Tacoma, Washington to Wallace and Ida Lindeman. She grew up in a loving and lively household with her seven siblings: Leona, Eileen, Wallace, Iva, Donald, Margaret and Janice. She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and then worked as a secretary in the Tacoma area. In 1940 she married Gunnar F. Wicklund. The couple first lived in Newhalem, Washington where they had first met. In 1942, they moved to the Green Lake neighborhood in Seattle where they raised their two children. During much of her time in Seattle, Anita continued her secretarial work until she and Gunnar retired to Bainbridge Island in 1972. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2001.

      A life long Lutheran, Anita was an active member in churches in Tacoma, Seattle and Bainbridge Island. She treasured her close and extensive family as well as her many friends. Her gentle spirit, graceful presence, humor and wit are remembered by all who knew her.

      Anita is survived by her sister Janice Perry, brother-in-law Glenn Perry, her sisters-in-law Louise Lindeman and Dorothy Wicklund, son Robert Wicklund, daughter Karen Kushner and son-in-law Edward Kushner, grandchildren Peter and Siri Kushner, their spouses Sally Crumplin and Hector Guillen, three great-grandchildren, Miguel Guillen, Elsie and Greta Kushner, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as their spouses and children.

      A memorial service will be held on August 31st at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Bainbridge Island. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her name to Bethany Lutheran Church, 7968 Finch Road NE, Bainbridge Island, Washington 98110 or to Lutheran World Relief, 700 Light Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21230.
