Allen E. (Bud) Hellner

May 1, 1927 – July 9, 2011

      Allen E. (Bud) Hellner, age 84, passed away on July 9, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 1, 1927 in Seattle to Albin and Marion (Sward) Hellner.

      Bud attended Ballard High School, Seattle University and the University of Washington Graduate School. His career included 31 years in public education, the majority of which were with the Bainbridge Island School District.

      He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Patricia F. Hellner, nee Sugg; daughter, Heidi Hellner-Gomez (Leo) and grandchildren, Kiana Marie and Jessamyn Hope of Grandview, WA; and son, Eric Hellner (Chauntelle) and grandchildren Kaylie Lynn and Allen Evan of Bonney Lake, WA; and grandaughter, Melina Headley (George) of Belize.

      Bud and Pat raised their family on Bainbridge Island and retired to Wenatchee in 1991 where he was active in the music scene playing with the Wenatchee Big Band, Easy Money, and the Sixteen Strings Trio. He was a member of the Cashmere Presbyterian Church.

      His first wife, Mary L. Hellner, nee Kernan, passed away early in life due to diabetic complications.

      In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetic Association, Cashmere Presbyterian Piano Fund, or a charity of one’s choice.

      A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 2:00p.m. at Cashmere Presbyterian Church.
