Youth and alcohol is topic of school meeting

Parents are invited to take part in a community conversation about Bainbridge youth alcohol consumption. The event will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, in the commons at Bainbridge High School.

Parents of children of all ages are invited to the event. Those who are concerned about teen islanders’ alcohol use are also encouraged to stop by the event.

Small groups will share thoughts, connect and envision how to best encourage and support children, especially teens, to be safe and healthy.

Bainbridge Island School District officials recently released the results of the recent Healthy Youth Survey, which recorded higher than average drinking rates across the island for teens.

Responses from a recent Healthy Youth Survey show that 76 percent of Bainbridge seniors reported drinking alcohol at least once compared to 66 percent of seniors elsewhere. Sophomores reported below their state peers at 43 percent compared to 50 percent.
