A voters forum will be held this week to introduce the candidates for a seat on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.
Four seats on the five-member commission are up for election this year, and only one seat has a candidate running unopposed.
Commissioner Dan Morrow is taking a solo shot at retaining the Position 3 seat. It carries a four-year unexpired term.
The Position 2 seat has three candidates, and two will advance from the Primary Election to November’s General Election. The candidates are David H. Lynch, YongSuk Cho and Meghan McKnight.
The Position 4 and Position 5 seats both have two candidates.
Eileen A. McSherry and William (Bill) Ruddick are running for Position 4 on the fire board, and Theresa (Teri) Dettmer and Holly vanSchaick both hope to serve in Position 5.
The forum is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at Station 21, 8895 Madison Ave.
The format: Each candidate will have up to three minutes to introduce themselves, share relevant experience and detail their interest in the position.
A panel session will follow, led by facilitator Jane Dunkel.
Dunkel will pose a series of questions to the panel; each member may choose to answer one or more.
Questions will center on the department’s biggest challenges in the coming decade; performances measures for the district; response times; appropriate staffing levels, types and mixes of equipment and facilities; and the role of a fire commissioner on balancing workforce needs, citizens’ service expectations and the cost to taxpayers.
A question-and-answer session with the audience will follow, and the forum will wrap up with closing statements from the candidates.
