UPDATE | Prop. 1 growing more unpopular in recent vote tallies

Opposition to the city of Bainbridge Island's Proposition 1 continued to climb through Election Day, with more than three-quarters of the ballots from last-minute voters going against the proposal for a $15 million bond measure for a new police station.

Opposition to the city of Bainbridge Island’s Proposition 1 continued to climb through Election Day, with more than three-quarters of the ballots from last-minute voters going against the proposal for a $15 million bond measure for a new police station.

A total of 2,329 more ballots have been tallied from Bainbridge voters on Prop. 1 in subsequent counts by the Kitsap County Elections Division late Wednesday and Thursday.

So far, a total of 7,700 ballots with votes on Prop. 1 have been counted in what’s turning out to be a low-turnout election. Bainbridge has 17,883 eligible voters.

On Election Night, Prop. 1 was losing with a 74.6 percent “no” vote. The measure needed a 60 percent “yes” vote to pass.

After Thursday’s vote count, voters were rejecting Prop. 1 by 75.3 percent.

The current vote tally is 5,797 votes against Prop. 1, and 1,903 votes for the measure.

Kitsap election workers expect to complete a new vote tally by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.

The elections division estimates there will be approximately 6,500 ballots, countywide, left to count Friday.

Bainbridge turnout is now estimated at 43 percent.

Voter turnout across Kitsap County was estimated at 33.5 percent after Thursday’s tally.
