An autopsy on the diver who died while diving near Blakely Rock on Saturday has been concluded, but results will likely take weeks to complete, an official with the Kitsap County Coroner’s office said.

The Kitsap County coroner has identified the diver who died in Blakely Harbor as Gene Priestman, 65, of Bainbridge Island.

Priestman’s body was recovered from Blakely Harbor after a weekend-long search on Monday, July 29. The body was then taken to the Kitsap County Coroner’s office in Port Orchard. An autopsy has been performed and the coroner is awaiting its results.

Priestman was reported missing on Saturday, July 27 after he was 10 minutes late from surfacing near Blakely Rock.

Priestman was retired and living on Bainbridge Island. He was co-founder of Scitor Corporation where he worked for 24 years and was its chief engineering officer.

Scitor Corporation is a private defense and space company that works for federal and state agencies, the Department of Defense and the intelligence community, according to its website.

Priestman hailed from Larchmont, N.Y. He graduated from the University of California Berkely in 1975.
