Bainbridge police apprehended a man who refused to leave the Bainbridge High School parking lot Thursday morning.

Staff called police after the man pulled a knife on a school security officer who approached the man to ask that he leave the property.

“We determined that it was someone we dealt with before and who had some odd behavior that caused some red signs to go up for us,” said Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matthew Hamner.

Hamner said that the man had other incidents in the past few days at the police department and city hall before appearing at the high school.

The man was described as a young adult, probably in his 20s, who exhibited bizarre behavior.

“The officers dealt with this in an extremely professional manner,” Hamner said.

“We had [crisis intervention trained] officers who … were patient, waited it out, and when the opportunity presented itself we were able to apprehend him,” Hamner said.
