Bats work in fastpitch win

The Bainbridge fastpitch team proved they can swing the bat against the good teams in the Metro League like Bishop Blanchet.

Freshman Cara Thompson went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs as the Spartans scored early, then held on to defeat the Braves 6-5 Thursday at home.

After scoring a run in the first, Chelsea Baker, Kelcee Azure and Chelsie Kakela all walked in the third, setting up Thompson’s big blow to increase the lead to 4-0. Stephanie Wagner doubled to score her.

Blanchet fought back to within one, but in the sixth, Azure singled, then worked her way to third and scored what was the game-winning run on a Karen Robinson base hit.

“I think this (win) proved how tough we are going to be this season,” head coach Liz McCloskey said.

Bainbridge plays at home against Cleveland Monday.

Seniors finish prep career

Bainbridge basketball players Allie Picha, Kaitlin Bailey and Theo Miller got one last hurrah on the court.

The three seniors were chosen to participate in the 2006 West Sound Senior High School All-Star Basketball Games Tuesday at Olympic College.

“It was really fun,” Picha said. “It’s just a great group of players and girls. And most of them I know, so it’s just really fun.”

Picha played well in the contest despite not scoring, grabbing some big boards in a physical, close game, while Bailey scored two points for the Puget Sound team, who lost to the Cascade team 30-26.

In the boys game, Theo Miller represented Bainbridge well with a strong inside game. Miller scored five inside and also had some clutch boards as the Puget Sound team topped Miller’s Cascade squad in a close finish, 63-61.

South Kitsap’s Tysaiah Curry led the comeback charge, scoring a game-high 22 points.
