Spartronics make quarterfinals with HERMES

The Bainbridge High School Spartronics team made it to the quarterfinals with their new robot HERMES in a tournament in Bellevue last weekend.

Coach Enrique Chee said that’s an impressive feat considering that for most of the team it was their first time building a Spartronics robot.

“COVID-19 significantly impacted the momentum of our team,” Chee said. “Last year, Spartronics could not build a robot as we could only meet over Zoom. And this year, only a handful of our current team members had built a robot before. It has been a learning — and a re-learning— experience for all.”

Co-captain Zephyr Kockenash won the Dean’s List Award at the tournament. The award is the highest — and only — individual student honor that FIRST Robotics offers.
