A small fire in the bedroom of a home on Sunrise Drive was quickly doused Sunday before causing major damage.
Assistant Chief Luke Carpenter of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department said the call was originally reported as a structure fire, prompting the dispatch of units from North Kitsap Fire and Rescue and the Poulsbo Fire Department.
The blaze was actually a small fire in a trash basket that was next to a bed that caught the mattress on fire and filled the house with smoke. Carpenter said the fire was extinguished with less than two gallons of water. Firefighters cleared the house of smoke before the homeowner was allowed back inside.
