Sights from BI’s 2nd AAPI Heritage Festival

The second annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Festival brought smiles and community to Bainbridge Island.

Zongzi are made with sticky rice, sometimes dyed blue with butterfly pea flowers, that is stuffed with either sweet or savory filling and then wrapped in bamboo leaves and steamed. This triangular style is called Hokkien zongzi.

This year, the Melanesian community of Seattle and the Kitsap Peninsula was invited to join the heritage festival celebration.
