Sewer line breaks again near Eagle Harbor

A sewer line near Eagle Harbor broke late Thursday night near the previous spot where the pipe failed in late August.

Bainbridge officials said a temporary bypass was set up at the Highway 305 lift station to prevent more sewage from flowing to the beach main.

City officials said the break occurred within 100 yards of the line failure in late August, which sent more than 400,000 gallons of raw sewage into Eagle Harbor.

Officials said it was not immediately known how much sewage spilled into the harbor late Thursday.

City crews expect to repair the line sometime during the next low tide, possibly sometime after 4 p.m. Friday, said Public Works Director Barry Loveless.
