Second candidate for South Ward council position: Townsend to run

A second race for the Bainbridge Island City Council now has two candidates.

A second race for the Bainbridge Island City Council now has two candidates.

Roger Townsend filed as a candidate for the South Ward, Position 3 seat on Wednesday.

He joins candidate Robert Bosserman, who filed as a candidate on Tuesday with the Kitsap County elections office.

Candidate Filing Week ends Friday, May 17.

Three council seats are up for election this November. In addition to the Position 3 seat now held by Councilwoman Kirsten Hytopoulos, voters will also choose new council members for Position 5 in the Central Ward, and Position 7 in the North Ward.

John Green and Arlene Buetow are seeking Position 5. Incumbent Councilwoman Debbi Lester has said she will not seek re-election.

Councilman Bob Scales, the Position 7 incumbent, is likewise forgoing another shot at elected office.

Val Tollefson is the sole candidate so far in the North Ward race.
