Eight dens showcased their speediest creations at the races,  with their pack’s champion competing in each of the four den divisions: Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos.

The Pinewood Derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. With the help of parents, kids build their own cars from wood, usually from kits that include a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles.

The Orca Runoff Derby, held on Saturday, April 20 in Silverdale, was a big success, and islander Cort Satterwhite won first place for the Wolf division.

Cort is part of Pack 4545, a new pack that began in 2012. He previously won the local Pinewood Derby held at Rolling Bay Church on March 16.
