The city of Bainbridge Island’s newest councilman took the oath of office Tuesday night.
Michael R. Scott, a former school board member and an island resident since 1989, was sworn in just after the start of the Jan. 20 council meeting. Bainbridge Municipal Judge Sara L. McCulloch administered the ceremonial oath of office.
Scott took his seat on the dais between Councilwoman Sarah Blossom and Councilman Val Tollefson.
His first vote was on a motion to amend the council’s agenda.
Scott was sworn in earlier in the day, city officials said, so he could participate in a closed-door executive session before the start of Tuesday’s meeting.
The new councilman is a lawyer who is currently is the chairman of the Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson Litigation Group.
