A memorial service will be held Sunday for the Department of Natural Resources diver who perished while diving off South Beach.

David D. Scheinost, a 24-year-old from Puyallup, died July 24 during a routine check of the geoduck tract near Restoration Point on Bainbridge Island. The investigation into his death is still ongoing.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 at the Auburn Adventist Academy Church, located at 5010 Auburn Way S, Auburn. Scheinost’s family said the public is welcome to attend.

A viewing is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at Edwards Memorial Chapel in Lakewood. Edwards Memorial Chapel is located at 11020 S Tacoma Way.

Scheinost was a graduate of the Divers Institute of Technology 2010, and started working for the Department of Natural Resources in February.

He was born July 2, 1988 to Ginny Sizemore and Eric Scheinost in Redmond, later moved to Puyallup, and most recently, was living in Tacoma with his girlfriend, Angela Singleton.

According to his family, he was passionate about diving. Known by his friends as “Davey Doom,” he was also a talented musician and “Lord of the Rings” enthusiast who enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and hiking. He also liked pingpong and video games. He is survived by his mother and father; sister Erica Schuman; stepmother Alicia Scheinost; and stepsisters Anahi and Lysandra Trejo.

An account has been established in his name at Boeing Employees Credit Union; donations can be made at any BECU branch. Donations will be used to help his family with extra expenses not covered by existing benefits, which may include the purchase of a headstone at Greenwood Cemetery in Renton and to help settle debts related to his life and passing.
