Passenger ferry runs aground off Bainbridge en route to maintenance yard

The passenger ferry Skagit ran aground briefly outside Eagle Harbor at 10:30 a.m. Friday, on its way to the Eagle Harbor maintenance yard. The ferry became stuck near the mouth of the harbor, just off the Wyckoff property.

According to Washington State Ferries spokesperson Linda LaCombe, WSF crews shut the ferry’s engines down and waited for the tide to come in. The tide was rising from a minus 1.4 at 10 a.m.

The ferry was floating free by 11:10 a.m. and motored into Eagle Harbor with a U.S. Coast Guard escort.

The ferry was inspected at the Eagle Harbor maintenance yard and was expected to return to service Friday.

The 250-passenger Skagit serves as a passenger ferry between Vashon Island and Seattle.
