Olympic champ honored by Bainbridge

Stefanie Sarason of Bainbridge Island was recently honored with a special proclamation by the city of Bainbridge Island.

Sarason won a gold medal in the 4x1k cross-country skiing relay, as well as fifth- and sixth-place ribbons in cross-country skiing, at the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria.

Sarason, a longtime islander, also won ribbons in cross-country skiing in the 2009 World Winter Games.

The city’s proclamation, which was presented to the Olympic champ at a recent council meeting, noted that Sarason and her SkiHawks teammates beat out relay teams from France and the Netherlands.

Her competitive spirit showed “true grit,” the proclamation noted, and said her strength, determination and remarkable success was inspirational to islanders.
